Aims -

To assist those who practice couples counselling in reflexive thought when they consider what might be a helpful therapeutic intervention for a couple.

Content -

Discussion and consideration of psychodynamic and systemic interventions, their intention, their use, and their appropriateness when consideration a situation with a couple in counselling.
When considering an intervention:
- What’s it meant to achieve?
- What do I want the couple to notice that might help them?
- How do I judge if what I want them to notice is what they might need to help them?
- Circular questions: having delivered one, how do I use the new information to creating the next Q (I think this is part if the circular process)
- Which interventions are better than others toward a particular purpose.
- Nothing I’ve said appears to have helped – what now?

Note – whilst this workshop is intended for qualified couples counsellors, counsellors who are familiar with psychodynamic and systemic therapy and who are considering training as a couples counsellor may find this workshop of interest.

Originally trained by Relate, for whom she still works, Sue has been in couples practice as a therapist, supervisor and trainer, for 25 years.

Aims: CCS’ Couple Counselling training aims to develop students in four areas: Skills, Theory, Ethical considerations & Reflexive practice.

Content: An integration of psychodynamic understanding with systemic intervention covering: Communication, Management of conflict, Couple fit, Separation, Divorce & Sexual relationships.

Time: 6 hours per day, Saturday and Sunday on the 1st weekend of every month,except Bank Holiday weekends – marked * below.
